Spatially varying current

The spatially varying current is described by defining a set of a current profile locations and corresponding current profiles with specified directions and speeds at different levels.

Not available for models with bodies (i.e. coupled analysis)

1. Parameters

1.1. Per Profile

For each current profile location, specify the

  1. Global X-coordinate: Global X-coordinate of the profile location

  2. Global Y-coordinate: Global Y-coordinate of the profile location

  3. The current profile is described by a profile with specified directions and speeds at different levels.

This must be repeated for each current profile location.

Linear interpolation is used to determine current velocity between points defined in the profile and between the different profiles. If the profile does not cover the complete water column or spatial extension, the current is assumed to be constant outside the tabulated range.

1.2. Per Current Level and for each profile

  • Level: Z-coordinate of the level (zero at mean water level, negative below)

  • Direction: Current propagation direction at this level (degrees from global X-axis, counter-clockwise seen from above)

  • Velocity: Current velocity at this level
